I’m going to New Zealand on March 1. Backpacking. A land of breathtaking proportions. A thousand miles from tip to tip, more or less. But no. I’m not carrying concealed on the expedition. Maybe a fork or tent peg.
The reason this is important—at least to me—is that, for the first time in my life, I’m concerned about the U.S. flag I wear on my backpack. I’ve wondered about wearing a Canadian flag for international travel. RCMP Mounties, after all, scavenge airplane parts from museums so who could really be mad at them? And I’m not Canadian.
