Shoot Straight Inc., the state’s largest firearms retailer, now owns the state’s largest gun show promoter, Suncoast Gun Shows.

The Apopka-based gun store chain, which is owned by Khaled Akkawi, has retail stores in eight cities. Suncoast hosts gun shows in Palmetto, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Fort Myers and Lakeland. Akkawi told me Tuesday he purchased Suncoast just last month, but he admitted there have been rumors going back for years that he called the shots at their gun shows.
