The Problem With Statistics

I really enjoyed teaching critical thinking classes, especially when we discussed statistics. Whereas statistical information can be critical to an argument, it can also be easily twisted, concocted, and falsified. You may have heard the quote, “Statistics can be made to prove anything—even the truth.” Or what about this little gem: “98% of all statistics are made up.” But Professor Aaron Levenstein may have outdone them all with his provocative statement. “Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.”
