HOUSTON, TX — A road rage incident escalated into a self-defense shooting on January 17, 2025, leaving one man wounded after he allegedly threatened a young couple on the road.

The incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m. near the 5300 block of North McCarty Street. According to police, a man in his mid-40s was driving recklessly on the 610 Loop, swerving aggressively before targeting a younger male driver and his pregnant girlfriend.

Witnesses and video evidence show the suspect brake-checking the couple, stopping suddenly in front of their vehicle, and eventually chasing them off the freeway. When the younger driver attempted to escape by taking an exit, the suspect continued pursuing them, eventually pulling alongside their vehicle at a traffic light.

At this point, the suspect allegedly began yelling threats at the couple. In an apparent attempt to block their escape, the suspect then drove into oncoming traffic, swerved in front of their car, and came to a stop. He then jumped out and ran toward them with his hands near his pockets, leading the 20-year-old driver to believe he was about to be attacked or shot.

Fearing for their safety, the younger man—who had previously worked as a security guard—fired multiple rounds through his windshield and side window, striking the aggressor in the torso, arm, and leg. Despite being seriously wounded, the suspect survived and was transported to a local hospital, where he is expected to recover.

The shooter then exited his vehicle and used a pair of handcuffs he had from his security work to restrain the suspect until police arrived. He and his girlfriend remained on the scene, fully cooperated with authorities, and called 911 immediately after the incident.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the shooter, and law enforcement officials have indicated that the case appears to be a justified act of self-defense. However, the investigation remains ongoing.
