CHICAGO, IL – A woman recently turned the tables on a knife-wielding attacker in Chicago by drawing a pistol and shooting, killing him. The man approached her in her home near midnight, causing her to pull her own weapon…and use it.
The Chicago Police Department responded to a call of shots fired after an attack on a woman in her home in the Chicago neighborhood of Morgan Park just after midnight on Oct. 22, according to Fox 32 Chicago .
The man was known to his intended victim, who was at her home in the late hours when he drew a knife on her. She drew a pistol and fired four shots, hitting him four times in the torso.
Authorities showed up on the scene and found the wounded man, who was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Detectives are investigating the incident.
A Home Defense Gun Is Only Useful When Accessible Fast
There are a few good takeaways here.
First, gun rights are women’s rights. An unarmed woman is less easily victimized by a man.
Second, he pulled a knife. She pulled a gun. That’s the Chicago way.
Third, one of the tropes of concealed carry is that you shouldn’t take your concealed carry gun off when you’re home because that’s where home invasions happen.
The salient point, of course, is that any home defense firearm has to be quickly accessible, or it’s likely not to do a person any good. Whether that’s a long gun like a carbine, rifle, or shotgun, or a handgun of any kind – subcaliber “underwear” gun or a service-size pistol that you don’t normally carry – it needs to be quickly accessible in case of a home invasion or an attack inside your home.
Luckily, this woman had her pistol on her or at least very close to hand and dealt with her attacker.
A fourth and more chilling point is that women are more likely to be assaulted or killed by a man they know than a man they don’t. A “friend,” current or former intimate partner, or family member is far more often the culprit than a complete stranger. The intended victim knew her attacker.
The investigation is ongoing, but this appears to be as clean a shoot as it gets.
