Liberty Ammo approaches handgun “stopping power” from the opposite end of the “traditional” approach to ballistic effectiveness. That approach is to propel the heaviest bullet for the caliber selected at the highest possible velocity. In the .38 Special, this has meant using bullets in the 158- to 200-grain range, driven from anywhere from around 700 fps to 900 fps depending on weight. There were some attempts at alternate lightweight, high-speed .38 Special loadings that met with limited success.
