SAN ANTONIO, TX — A shooting in San Antonio early Sunday morning resulted in the death of a man in his late 40s after he refused to leave a homeowner’s property, despite multiple warnings. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on June 30, in the 800 block of Allende Drive.
Local media reported that the San Antonio Police Department received a call about the shooting and arrived at the scene shortly after. According to the homeowners, the man had initially approached their home and knocked on the door. The homeowner asked him to leave and not return. However, the man soon came back to the front door, prompting the homeowner to repeat the request for him to leave.
A short time later, the homeowners heard noises coming from their backyard. The homeowner armed himself with a shotgun and went to investigate. He found the man in the yard and again asked him to leave. The man then allegedly lunged at the homeowner and his wife, prompting the homeowner to fire a shot in self-defense, hitting the man in the stomach.
Officers from the San Antonio Police Department and Emergency Medical Services attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The homeowners stated they feared for their safety when they fired the shot. As of now, it is unclear if any charges will be filed against the homeowners.
The incident is still under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.
While this incident ended with no harm to the victims, it highlights the risks of leaving the safety and security of your home to confront a suspect. Confronting an intruder, even if armed, can be extremely dangerous. The suspect could be armed as well, or might have accomplices that haven’t been seen. It is always recommended to call law enforcement and let them handle the situation. Self-defense is justified in many cases, but it is crucial to consider all potential risks before taking action.
