COMMERCE CITY, CO – A suspect was shot and killed during a home break-in early Friday morning, according to the Commerce City Police Department. The incident occurred at a residence in the 5300 block of E 64th Avenue.
At approximately 2:04 PM on June 16, officers responded to a call from an adult male homeowner who reported he had been injured in an attack inside his home. The homeowner also stated he had shot an unknown intruder.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of the suspected intruder, also an adult male, inside the residence. The homeowner sustained injuries during the attack but is expected to survive.
The Commerce City Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing and that additional details will be released when it is certain that doing so will not compromise the case. The Adams County Coroner will identify the deceased.
This incident highlights the importance of self-defense, as the homeowner was able to protect himself from the intruder. Thankfully, the homeowner had a firearm and was able to defend himself against the attack, potentially preventing a more tragic outcome.
