KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A home burglary turned violent when a homeowner shot a man who had forcibly entered her residence in Kissimmee on Tuesday, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old David Martinez-Estrada, now faces multiple charges including criminal mischief, unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling, stalking, and resisting arrest without violence.

According to authorities, deputies were called to a home on Royal Palm Drive where they found Martinez-Estrada inside. Despite orders to exit the premises, Martinez-Estrada allegedly advanced further into the home, prompting a tense confrontation. Shortly thereafter, shots were fired, and Martinez-Estrada exited the residence, revealing he had been shot.

First responders provided immediate medical assistance to Martinez-Estrada before transporting him to a local hospital. Details regarding the severity of his injuries have not been disclosed, but he is currently being held at the Osceola County Jail.

The homeowner, who wished to remain unnamed, told deputies that she fired her weapon in defense of herself and her family after Martinez-Estrada forced his way into their bedroom.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office described the shooting as an isolated incident, stressing that there was no ongoing threat to the community.

The incident highlights the critical importance of security and preparedness in home settings.
