A fatal shooting incident in East Texas resulted in the death of a Longview, Texas, man, with authorities stating the shooter acted in self-defense.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. Sunday in a rural area between Bullard and Jacksonville. Responding to a 911 call about the incident, deputies found a man dead from gunshot wounds.

Sheriff Brent Dickson said in a statement that initially, two Bullard residents, Stephen Driskel, 54, and Sue Peeler, 64, were detained for questioning regarding the incident.
