Tom Setler, the Assistant Manager of Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitters in Stroudsburg said, “It’s used very commonly in the military. It’s also one of the most popular hunting calibers across the country.” He added they are exceptionally powerful bullets. “It strikes its target and causes a lot of shock to the system. It causes a very serious blow to the target,” he said.

They can be used in all sorts of guns; “Dozens of bolt action rifles, several pump action rifles, a few lever action rifles, single shot rifles. There’s a lot of 308 chamber guns out there, a lot.”

When use for hunting deer and bear, the bullets are often shot from as far as 300 yards away. Setler said a highly-trained military user with a semi-automatic rifle can shoot from up to 1,000 yards away.
