Ohio: Major Gun-Rights Provision Signed into Law

On Dec. 19, Gov. John Kasich (R) signed a bill expanding gun rights in Ohio to include the use of suppressors by hunters, concealed-carry permit requirement reforms and mandatory shall-certify rules for National Firearms Act (NFA) items. A number of other pro-gun provisions were added to the legislation, including allowing long-gun purchases in non-contiguous states; requiring sheriffs to use the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in processing concealed-handgun-license applications; recognition of all states’ concealed-carry permits and requiring the chief law enforcement officer to process forms for NFA items just as they would for a CHL applicant.
